Effects of Systematic Multipole Errors on the Dynamic Aperture of the NLC Main Damping Rings

چکیده
Recent work on designs of dipoles, quadrupoles and sextupoles for the NLC Main Damping Ring has led to estimates of the systematic multipole components in the fields of these magnets. We report on studies of the effects of these multipoles on the dynamic aperture of the damping ring, and show that the systematic multipole components in the present magnet designs are unlikely to be a severe limitation. Wigglers and Single-particle Dynamics in the Nlc Damping Rings
Wiggler insertions are expected to occupy a significant portion of the lattice of the Next Linear Collider (NLC) Main Damping Rings (MDR) and have a noticeable impact on the single-particle beam dynamics. Starting from a realistic 3D representation of the magnetic fields we calculate the transfer maps for the wigglers, accounting for linear and nonlinear effects, and we study the beam dynamics ...
متن کاملA Lattice with Larger Momentum Compaction for the Nlc Main Damping Rings*
Previous lattice designs for the Next Linear Collider Main Damping Rings [1] have met the specifications for equilibrium emittance, damping rate and dynamic aperture. Concerns about the effects of the damping wiggler on the beam dynamics [2] led to the aim of reducing the total length of the wiggler to a minimum consistent with the required damping rate, so high-field dipoles were used to provi...
متن کاملSymplectic Integrators for Nonlinear Wiggler Fields
To achieve fast damping, the NLC Main Damping Ring uses a wiggler with high field strength, 2.15 T, and over 45 m in length. An ideal wiggler with infinitely wide pole pieces may be treated as a linear element, and has no impact on the dynamic aperture. However, the integrated nonlinear components from a real wiggler with integrated field over 100 Tm can be significant, and the choice of method...

Adding a field gradient to the main dipoles for the NLC Main Damping Ring lattice has leads to significant improvements in the dynamic behavior of particles in the lattice. We describe the properties of the new lattice, including some initial estimates of alignment tolerances required to achieve the desired vertical emittance. متن کاملImpact of Higher-order Multipole Errors in the Nsls-ii Quadrupoles and Sextupoles on Dynamic and Momentum Aperture
Successful operation of NSLS-II requires sufficient dynamic aperture for injection, as well as momentum aperture for Touschek lifetime. We explore the dependence of momentum and dynamic aperture on higher-order multipole field errors in the quadrupoles and sextupoles. We add random and systematic multipole errors to the quadrupoles and sextupoles and compute the effect on dynamic aperture. We f...
